Des Prairies River
Des Prairies, river, a channel of the Ottawa river that separates the island of Montreal from isle Jésus. It is sometimes known as the Back river; but the name Des Prairies is found on a map as early as 1650. It was the name of a French pilot (see Father Vimont's Jesuit Relation, 1640). Source: W.
