Philippe Pastour, Sieur de Costebelle
Costebelle, Philippe Pastour, Sieur de (1661-1717), governor of Louisbourg, was born in the south of France in 1661, and entered the French army in 1683. In 1694 he was sent to Newfoundland, where he served for two years; and in 1706 he was sent back to Newfoundland as governor of Placentia. In 1714 he became the first governor of Louisbourg; and he died at Louisbourg on November 16, 1717. Source : W.
