Patrick Dowd
Dowd, Patrick (1813-1891), priest, was born in the county of Leith, Ireland, in 1813. He was educated in the Irish College in Paris, France; and was ordained a priest of the Roman Catholic church in Paris in 1837. In 1847 he joined the Sulpician order; and in 1848 he was sent to Montreal. He became the parish priest of St. Patrick's Church; and he remained in this charge until his death at Montreal on December 19, 1891. On several occasions lie declined elevation to the episcopate.
