Mrs Ann Cuthbert Fleming

Fleming, Mrs. Ann Cuthbert (d. 1860), author and school-teacher, was a native of Scotland who came to Canada about 1815. She published at this time two small volumes of poetry, Home, a poem (Edinburgh, 1815), and A year in Canada, and other poems (Edinburgh, 1816). She founded later a ladies' school in Montreal, and published three early Canadian school-books, First book for Canadian children (Montreal, 1844). The prompter (Montreal, 1844), and Progressive exercises on the English language, to correspond with the prompter (Montreal, 1845). She married James, a younger brother of John Flaming, of Montreal ; and she died in 1860.
