Maurice Galbraith Cullen

Cullen, Maurice Galbraith (1866-1934), landscape-painter, was born at St. John's, Newfoundland, in 1866, and came to Montreal with his parents as a child. He studied sculpture in Montreal, under Hébert, and painting in Paris, France, under Delauny and Roll. He exhibited for the first time in the Paris salon in 1894. He was elected an associate of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 1895, and a member in 1907. He lived in Canada since 1906, specializing in winter landscapes. He was also a member of the Canadian War Memorial staff, and painted a number - of pictures relating to the Great War. He died in Chambly Canton, Quebec, on March 28, 1934.
