L'Islet

Parish and County

 

L'Islet, a county in Quebec fronting on the south shore of the St. Lawrence river, opposite Baie St. Paul, and bounded by Kamouraska county, the Maine boundary, and Montmagny county. It is named after the seigniory of L'Islet St.-Jean, so called after a small rocky island off the village of L'Islet . It is served by the Canadian National Railway. Chief town, St. Jean Port Joli. Pop. 20,589 [in 1948].

 

L'Islet, a parish in L'Islet county, Quebec, on the Canadian National Railway, 52 miles east of Lévis, and on the St. Lawrence river. It is situated in a farming district, and in the parish itself there are stove, furniture, and sash and door factories, brick-yards, and several saw mills. There is also a weekly newspaper (Le Courrier de L' Islet).
