Kaniapiskau Lake and River
Kaniapiskau lake, a body of water in the New Quebec district of Quebec, bisected by the 54th parallel of latitude. It is drained by the Kaniapiskau river, a main tributary of the Koksoak river; and it has an area of 375 square miles. The name is a Montagnais word meaning "rocky point".
Kaniapiskau river, a large stream in the territory of New Quebec, rises in lake Kaniapiskau, and after flowing northward for nearly 450 miles joins with the Larch river to form the Koksoak river. It is interrupted by numerous falls, one of which (Shale fall) is 60 feet high. Source : W.
