Joseph Olivier Côté
Coté, Joseph Olivier (1820-1882), civil servant, was born in Quebec on April 7, 1820, and in 1845 entered the Canadian civil service as a clerk in the Executive Council office. He ultimately became clerk of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada (1880-2). He published a useful book of reference, Political appointments and elections in the province of Canada (Quebec, 1860; new ed., Ottawa, 1866) ; and he compiled a valuable index to the state papers of Canada, 1841-67. He died in Ottawa, on April 24, 1882. A sequel to his Political appointments was published by his son. N. Omer Coté, under the title, Political appointments, parliaments, and the judicial bench in the Dominion of Canada, 1867-1895 (Ottawa, 1896). Source : W.
