Joseph Casavant
Casavant, Joseph (1807-1874), organ-builder, was born in 1807, and became an organ-builder at St. Hyacinthe, Lower Canada. He built, among many others, the organs in the Roman Catholic cathedrals at Kingston and Ottawa. He died at St. Hyacinthe on March 9, 1874 ; but his work was carried on by his sons, Joseph and Samuel, under the firm name of Casavant Frères. See Brother Élie, La famine Casavant (Montreal, 1914).
