John McDonald

McDonald, John (1782-1834), fur-trader, known as "McDonald le Grand", was born in Invernessshire, Scotland, in 1782, and entered the service of the North West Company in 1801. Ross Cox met him in New Caledonia in 1814; and he seems to have spent most of his service as a clerk in this department. From 1831 to 1833 he was stationed at Great Slave lake ; and he retired from the Company's service in 1834. He died at St. Andrew's, Lower Canada, on December 1, 1834 ; and his will is filed in Hudson's Bay House in London.
