John Joseph Curran
Curran, John Joseph (1842-1909), politician and judge, was born in Montreal on February 22, 1842, the son of Charles Curran and Sarah Kennedy. He was educated at St. Mary's College, Montreal, at the University of Ottawa (LL.D., 1891), and at McGill University (B.C.L., 1862). He was called to the bar in 1863 (Q.C., 1876), and practised law in Montreal. He was elected to represent Montreal Centre in the Canadian House of Commons, in 1882, and he continued to sit for this constituency until his elevation to the bench as a puisne judge of the Superior Court of Quebec in 1895. From 1892 to 1895 he was solicitor-general in the governments of Sir John Thompson and Sir Mackenzie Bowell. He died in Montreal on October 1, 1909 . In 1865 he married Mary Elizabeth, daughter of Patrick Brennan, Montreal, and by her he had several children. Source : W.
