John James Proctor

 

Proctor, John James (1838-1909), journalist and author, was born in Liverpool, Englaud, in 1838, and was educated at Sedburgh in Yorkshire. He came to Canada in 1856, and for several years taught on the staff of Bishop's College, Lennoxville. He then became a journalist, and at the time of his death on December 17, 1909, he was editor of the Quebec Morning Chronicle. He was the author of a volume of verse, Voices of the night and other poems (Montreal, 1861), and a novel entitled The philosopher in the clearing (Quebec, 1897).
