John Fletcher

Fletcher, John (1787-1844), jurist, was born in England in 1787, and was called to the English bar. He came to Canada in 1810, and began the practice of law in Quebec. In 1816 he was appointed a commissioner, with the Hon. W. B. Coltman, for the purpose of investigating the disturbances in the Indian country; but he did not go farther west than Fort William. In 1823 he was appointed provincial judge of the district of St. Francis; and he died at Sherbrooke, in the Eastern Townships, on October 11, 1844.
