John Fleming
Fleming, John (1786?-1832), merchant and author, was born in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, about 1786, and came out to Canada about 1803. He became head of the firm of Hart, Logan and Co., and president of the Bank of Montreal. A man of literary interests, he gathered what was for that time a very large library, which was sold by auction in 1843; and he published The political annals of Lower Canada (Montreal, 1828). He died at Montreal of cholera on July 30, 1832. Source : W. Stewart WALLACE, ed., The Encyclopedia of Canada, Vol. II, Toronto, University Associates of Canada, 1948, 411p., pp. 351-352.
