John Collins
Collins, John (d. 1795), surveyor, came to Canada with the British army under Wolfe in 1759, and in 1760 was a merchant at Quebec. In 1764 he was appointed deputy surveyor-general under Samuel Holland, and he was for many years engaged in surveying various parts of the old province of Quebec. In 1783 he was employed also in laying out the townships on the north shore of the St. Lawrence and about the bay of Quinte in anticipation of the settlement of the Loyalists. In 1775 he was appointed a member of the Legislative Council of Quebec, and in 1792 of the Legislative Council of Lower Canada. He died at Quebec in 1795. Source : W.
