Jean de Lauzon
Lauzon, Jean de (1584-1666), governor of New France (1651-6), was the son of François de Lauzon and Isabelle Lotin, and was born in 1584. In 1627 he was a member of both the state and privy councils, president of the grand council, and intendant of Guienne. On April 29, 1627, he became a member of the Company of One Hundred Associates. In January, 1651, he was appointed governor of New France. His administration, which lasted until 1656, was marked by quarrels with the Montreal colony, and by general disaffection among the residents of Canada. He returned to France, and he died there on February 16, 1666. He married first, Marie Gaudard, and second, in 1651, Anne Després, sister-in-law of the Sieur Duplessis-Bochart, and he had four sons.
