James Ferrier
Ferrier, James (1800-1888), capitalist and politician, was born in Fifeshire, Scotland, on October 22, 1800. He came to Canada in 1821, and became a successful merchant in Montreal. He was one of the promoters of the Montreal and Lachine Railway, and in 1857 he became a director of the Grand Trunk Railway. In 1845 he was elected mayor of Montreal ; and in 1847 he was appointed to the Legislative Council of Canada. In 1867 he was called to the Senate of Canada, and at the same time was appointed a member of the Legislative Council of Quebec. He died in Montreal on May 30, 1888. Source : W.
