James Dunlop
Dunlop, James (1755?-1815), merchant, was probably a native of Scotland. He came to Canada in 1777, and became a general merchant in Montreal. He amassed a fortune "supposed to be greater than ever was acquired by any individual of this country." In the War of 1812 he served as a major in the Montreal Volunteers, and was in January, 1814, court-martialed and dismissed from the service. He died on August 28, 1815.
