Henri Jules Juchereau Duchesnay

Duchesnay, Henri Jules Juchereau (1845-1887), agriculturist, was born at Ste. Marie de la Beauce, Lower Canada, on July 6, 1845, the third son of the Hon. Henri Elzéar juchereau Duchesnay. He was educated at the Quebec Seminary, studied law at Laval and McGill Universities, and was called to the bar of Quebec in 1866. He settled at Ste. Marie de la Beauce, became in 1871 lieutenant-colonel of the 23rd Battalion of Beauce, and in 1874 stipendiary magistrate of the county of Beauce. In February, 1887, he was elected to represent Dorchester in the Canadian House of Commons. He died shortly afterwards, however, at Ste. Marie de la Beauce, on July 6, 1887. In 1869, he married Marie Caroline Têtu; and by her he had ten children. He is chiefly remembered as the first dairy farmer to introduce the cream separator into America. See P: G. Roy, La famille Juchereau Duchesnay (Lévis, 1903), and Errol Bouchette, Les débuts d'une industrie et notre classe bourgeoise (Trans. Roy. Soc. Can., 1912).
