Georges Dugas
Dugas, Georges (1833-1928), priest and author, was born at St. Jacques de l’Achigan, Lower Canada, on November 5, 1833, the son of Édouard Dugas and Hedwige Lagarde. He was educated at L’Assomption College, and was ordained a priest of the Roman Catholic Church in 1862. He went west as a missionary, and served in various capacities in Manitoba from 1866 to 1888. He then became curé of the parish of Ste. Anne des Plaines, Quebec; and he died there on December 14, 1928. He was the author of La première canadienne du Nord-Ouest (Montreal, 1883), Mgr Provencher et les missions de la Rivière-Rouge (Montreal, 1889), Légendes du Nord-Ouest (Montreal, 1890), Un voyageur des pays d’en haut (Montreal, 1890), L’Ouest canadien (Montreal, 1896; English trans., Montreal, 1905), Histoire de la paroisse de Ste Anne des Plaines (Montreal, 1900), Histoire véridique des faits qui ont préparé le mouvement des Métis à la Rivière Rouge en 1869 (Montreal, 1905), and Histoire de L’Ouest canadien de 1822 à 1869 (Montreal, 1906).
