George Templeman Kingston

 

Kingston, George Templeman (1817-1886), meteorologist, was born at Oporto , Portugal, in 1817, and was a brother of W. H. G. Kingston, the novelist. He was educated at Cambridge University :(B.A., 1846; M.A., 1849), and emigrated to Canada. For some time he had charge of the Naval School at Quebec ; and in 1855 he was appointed professor of meteorology in the University of Toronto, and director of the magnetic observatory at Toronto. He died at Toronto on January 21, 1886. He published an Abstract of magnetical observations made at the Magnetical Observatory, Canada West, during the years 1856 to 1862 inclusive, and during parts of the years 1853, 1854, and 1855 (Toronto, 1863), and a number of papers in the Canadian journal and the British American Magazine.
