George Dalrymple Ferguson
Ferguson, George Dalrymple (1829-1926), historian, was born in Montreal, Lower Canada, on Christmas day, 1829, the son of Archibald Ferguson, proprietor of the Montreal Herald. He was educated at Queen's University, Kingston (B.A., 1851), at Edinburgh University, and at the University of Halle. In 1854 he was ordained a minister of the Church of Scotland in Canada, and for fifteen years he was in charge of St. Andrew's Church, Hawkesbury, Ontario. From 1869 to 1908 he was professor of history at. Queen's University, Kingston ; and for several years he was also on the staff of the Royal Military College, Kingston. He died at Kingston on August 21, 1926. He was the author of Lectures on the history of the Middle Ages (Kingston, 1904). Source : W. Stewart WALLACE, ed., The Encyclopedia of Canada, Vol. II.
