Gabriel Christie

Christie, Gabriel (1722-1799), soldier, was born in England in 1722. He entered the British army, and was present at the capture of Quebec in 1759. After 1763, he settled in Canada, and became the proprietor of the seigniories of Bleury, Sabrevois, Noyan, and Lacolle on the Upper Richelieu. In the army he rose to the rank of major-general. He died at Montreal on January 26, 1799. By his wife, Sara Stevenson, he had one son and two daughters; and by a mistress, Rachel Plenderleath, he had three other sons, who bore the patronymic of Plenderleath, but whom he recognized in his will.
