Frederick Herbert DuVernet
DuVernet, Frederick Herbert (1860-1924), Anglican archbishop of Caledonia, and metropolitan of British Columbia, was born at Hemmingford, Quebec, on January 20, 1860, the son of the Rev. Canon DuVernet and Francis Eliza Ellegood. He was educated at King's College, Windsor, Nova Scotia, and at the University of Toronto; and was ordained a priest of the Church of England in 1883. From 1885 to 1895 he was a professor in Wycliffe College, Toronto; and from 1895 to 1904 rector of St. John's Church, Toronto Junction. In 1904 he was consecrated bishop of Caledonia (British Columbia); and in 1915 he became archbishop of Caledonia and metropolitan of British Columbia. He died at Prince Rupert, British Columbia, on October 22, 1924. In 1885 he married Stella, daughter of Horatio Pates, M.D., of Kingston, Ontario. He was a D.D. of Trinity University (1904), of King's College, Windsor (1905), and of Wycliffe College, Toronto (1921). Source: W.
