François Dambourgès
Dambourgès, François (1742-1798), soldier, was born in 1742, at Salies, Béarn, France, the son of Jean Baptiste Dambourgès and Anne de Lambeye. He emigrated to Canada in the summer of 1763, and went into business at Saint Thomas. In 1775 he played an important part in the defence of Quebec against the Americans; and for his services on this occasion he was given a commission in the 84th Regiment. In 1785 he received a commission as captain in the Royal Canadian Volunteers, and later he became a colonel in the militia. From 1792 to 1796 he represented Devon in the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada; and he died at Montreal on December 13, 1798.
