FRANCIS HECTOR CLERGUE

President, Universal Engineering Corporation, 10 Place d'Youville, Montreal. Director, Canadian Car & Foundry-Co., Ltd. Born Brewer, Maine, son of Joseph Hector and Francis ( Lombard ) Clergue. Educated: Public School, Bangor, Maine, and Maine University; Took courses in Engineering. Called to the Bar of the Supreme Courts of Maine and of the United States. Became Director in various industrial enterprises. First President, Lake Superior Power Co.; constructed the hydraulic canals and power plants on the American and Canadian sides of St. Mary's Falls, at the outlet of Lake Superior. Subsequently organized the Algoma Steel Corporation and became its President, constructing the first Bessemer Steel Plant in Canada and the first rail mills in Canada ; also organized and became President of the Sault Ste Marie Pulp and Paper Co.; also organized and became first President of the Algoma Central Railway and the Algoma Eastern Railway.
