Fort Gaspareau

 

Fort Gaspereau, a French fort built by La Jonquière in 1751 at the head of bay Berte, near the mouth of the Gaspereau river, to command the defence of the Chignecto isthmus, in Nova Scotia. It was captured by the British in 1755, and was renamed Fort Monckton ; but was abandoned and burnt in 1756. See J. C. Webster, The forts of Chignecto (Shediac, N.B., 1930).
