Fort Erie

Fort Erie, a village in Welland county, Ontario, opposite Buffalo, New York, on the Niagara river, and on the Canadian National and the Toronto, Hamilton, and Buffalo Railways. It was originally a military post built by Capt. John Montresor in 1764; and as such it played an important part in the campaigns of 1812-4 on the Niagara frontier. It has a medicine factory, a public library, and a weekly newspaper (Times-Review). See J. G.
