Fort Dauphin, a French trading-post on the north-west shore of lake Manitoba, built by the sons of Pierre de la Vérendrye in 1741, at the portage to lake Winnipegosis. The first fort was destroyed by the Indians, but was apparently rebuilt in 1743. It was abandoned by the French about 1758; but the site was built upon several times after the British conquest.
