Fort Colville

Fort Colville, a Hudson's Bay Company post on the Colville river, about a mile from its junction with the Columbia river, in what is now the state of Washington. It was built in 1825, and of all the forts in the Oregon country it was next in importance to Fort Vancouver. It was abandoned after the Oregon country was assigned to the United States ; and the Hudson's Bay Company claimed indemnity for it in 1865. See J. O. Oliphant, Old Fort Colville (Washington Historical Quarterly, 1925).
