Drummondville
Drummondville, the county town of Drummond county, Quebec, on the St. Francis river and the Canadian National Railway, 38 miles from St. Hyacinthe. It was named in honour of Sir Gordon Drummond, administrator of Canada in 1815-16, by Major-Gen. Frederick George Herriot, the founder of the town. A hydro-electric plant on the St. Francis river provides the power for a large artificial-silk factory and other industrial plants. There are two newspapers (La Parole and Spokesman); and the Marconi Wireless Company has established here a powerful station for transmitting and receiving overseas messages.
