Daniel Tracey
Tracey, Daniel (1795-1832), physician and journalist, was born in Roscrea, Tipperary county, Ireland, in May, 1795, the son of Michael Tracey, a merchant. He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin, and after graduation studied medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons, Dublin. He practised medicine in Dublin for several years; but in 1825 he emigrated to Canada, and began the practice of medicine in Montreal. In 1828 he established the Vindicator, a Reform newspaper, and became its editor; and in May, 1832, he was elected to represent the west ward of Montreal in the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada.
