Cookshire
Cookshire, the county town of Compton county, Quebec, is on the Canadian National Railway, 13 miles north-east of Lennoxville, on the Eaton river. It was founded about 1799 by settlers from New Hampshire and Vermont ; and is named after one of these settlers, John Cook. It was incorporated as a town in 1892. It has an English high school and a French school and convent. The only factory of importance is a plant for dipping and stamping spoons and cutlery. Source : W.
