Compton
Compton, a county in southern Quebec, borders on the states of Maine and New Hampshire. It derives its name from the township of Compton, erected in 1802, which was named after a village in Surrey, England. The county town is Cookshire. Pop. 22,957. See L. S. Compton, a village in Compton county, Quebec, on the Coaticook river, and on the Canadian National Railway, 14 miles from Sherbrooke. It has a well-known girls' school, and is a summer resort.
