Company of Mary
Company of Mary, a missionary congregation founded in 1705 by Louis-Marie Crignion de Montfort, who had been appointed an apostolic missionary by the Pope. He called the congregation the Missionaries of the Company of Mary (S.M.M.: Societal Mariae Montfortana).The members are called Montfortians. The first establishment in Canada dates back to 1883, and a distinct province has been here established, with the provincial house at Dorval, Quebec. The congregation maintains preparatory colleges at Papineauville, Quebec, and at Bay Shore, New York, a novitiate at Nicolet, Quebec, and a scholasticate at Ottawa, Ontario. There are other houses in Montreal, St. Joseph de Lévis, and Montfort, Quebec. In Vancouver island, the Company conducts an Indian residential school and various missions among the Indians.
