City of Jonquière

Jonquière, a town in Chicoutimi county, Quebec, on the Sable river and on the Canadian National Railway, 25 miles from Grande-Baie, and 213 miles from Quebec. It was named in honour of the Marquis de la Jonquière, governor of New France (1749-52), and was incorporated as a town in 1912. It is chiefly important as the centre of operations of the Canadian National Railway in the Saguenay and Lac-St.-Jean district, and for its possession of a large pulp mill, both factors being largely responsible for the town's rapid industrial progress. It has a large commercial college for boys directed by the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, and five schools for girls.
