Christophe Alphonse Geoffrion

Geoffrion, Christophe Alphonse (1843-1899), lawyer and politician, was born at Varennes, Quebec, on November 23, 1843, the son of Félix Geoffrion and Catherine Brodeur. He was educated at St. Hyacinthe College and at McGill University (B.C.L., 1866; D.C.L., 1893). He practised law in Montreal in partnership with Sir A. A. Dorion, was created a Q.C. in 1879, and was elected bâtonnier of the Montreal bar in 1885. In 1895 he was elected to the Canadian House of Commons as a Liberal, to fill the vacancy in Verchères caused by the death of his brother, Félix Geoffrion, the sitting member. In 1896 he was included in the Laurier government as a minister without portfolio, and he continued as such until his death on July 18, 1899. In 1870 he married Eulalie eldest daughter of Sir A. A. Dorion.
