Charles Joseph Coursol

Coursol, Charles Joseph (1819-1888), judge and policitian, was born near Amherstburg, Upper Canada, on October 3, 1819, the son of Michel Coursol, a servant of the Hudson's Bay Company, and Marie Mélanie, daughter of Joseph Quesnel. He was educated at Montreal College, and was called to the bar of Lower Canada in 1841 (Q.C., 1873). In 1870 he was appointed a judge of the sessions of the peace in Montreal ; but in 1878 he retired from this post to contest Montreal East for the House of Commons. He was elected, and he continued to represent this constituency until his death in Montreal on August 4, 1888. He married the daughter of Sir Etienne Taché.
