Charles Gill
Gill, Charles Ignace Adélard (1871-1918), poet, was born at Sorel, Quebec, on October 21, 1871, the son of the Hon. Charles Gill, a judge of the Superior Court at Montreal. He was educated at St. Laurent College; and he studied painting under Gérome at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, France. He returned to Canada, and for twenty-five years he was professor of design at the Jacques Cartier Normal School, Montreal. He died in Montreal on October 16, 1918. In his leisure hours he wrote poetry; and some of his verse was published in Les soirées du Château de Ramesay (Montreal, 1900), issued by the "Ecole Littéraire de Montreal". After his death a volume of his poems was published, with a preface by Albert Lozeau, under the title Le Cap Eternité, poème suivi des étoiles filantes (Montreal, 1919). Source : W.
