(This firm is 82 years old). Born Montreal , Nov. 14, 1841, son of Léandre Chaput, who founded the firm of L. Chaput, Fils & Cie, Ltée, 1842, and Hélène (St. Denis) Chaput. Ancestors came from France in seventeenth century. Educated: Studied in the best Commercial Schools of Montreal, and went through French literature under Pierre Garnot, Professor of Classics. Entered business of his father, 1857 (66 years in business, May 1, 1923); admitted a partner, 1862; Director, The Ogilvie Flour Mills Co., Ltd.; ex-Director, Hochelaga Bank; ex-Director, Canada Life Assurance Co.; ex-Member of the Turnpike Trust; formerly member, Montreal Board of Trade; President, Montreal Citizens' Assoc.; Member, Montreal Dispensary; Governor, General Hospital, Notre-Dame Hospital. Married Mlle. Rose Anna Smith, Aug. 23, 1865 (deceased, Sept., 1883); secondly, Madame Clara Chevalier, Jan. 21, 1885 (deceased July, 1893); thirdly, Madame Leda Patoine, widow of the late Adolphe Hamel, Quebec; has three sons (Rev. Father Chaput, Mr. Armand Chaput, Vice-President and Manager of the firm of L. Chaput, Fils & Cie, Ltée, and Mr. Emile Chaput, a Director of the same firm) and two daughters (Madame Gabriel Marchand and Madame Edmond Desaulniers). Recreations: Reading, music. Conservative. Roman Catholic. Residence: 349 Sherbrooke Street   E., Montreal.
