Charles Édouard Fabre

Fabre, Edouard Charles (1827-1896), first Roman Catholic archbishop of Montreal, was born in Montreal, Lower Canada, on February 28, 1827, the son of Edouard Raymond Fabre and Luce Perrault. He was educated at the college of St. Hyacinthe, and at Issy, near Paris, France. He was ordained a priest in 1850. In 1873 he became coadjutor of Bishop Bourget, with the title of bishop of Gratianopolis, and in 1876 he succeeded him as bishop of Montreal. In 1886 the see of Montreal wars made an archbishopric, and Bishop Fabre received the pallium. He died at Montreal on December 30, 1896.
