Andrew McGill
McGill, Andrew (1756-1805), merchant, was born in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1756, the fifth son of James McGill, a merchant of Glasgow, and a younger brother of James McGill of Montreal. He matriculated into Glasgow University in 1765, at the early age of ten years. He joined his brothers James and John in Montreal about 1775, and became a junior partner in the firm of Todd and McGill. He died in Montreal on August 1, 1805, aged 49 years. He married Anne, daughter of Dr. Wood of Cornwall ; and she married in 1807 the Rev. John Strachan, afterwards first bishop of Toronto.
