Amédée Emmanuel Forget

 

Forget, Amédée Emmanuel (1847-1923), lieutenant-governor of the North West Territories (1898-1905) and of Saskatchewan (1905-10), was born at Marieville, Lower Canada, on November 12, 1847, the son of Jérémie Forget and Marie Guenette. He was educated at the College of Marieville, and was called to the bar of Quebec in 1871. In 1875 he was appointed one of the commissioners for the settlement of half-breed claims in the North West Territories ; and in 1876 he was appointed secretary to the lieutenant-governor of the Territories, and clerk of the council. In 1888 he became assistant commissioner of Indian affairs for Manitoba and the North West Territories, and in 1895 commissioner. In 1898 he was gazetted lieutenant-governor of the North West Territories, and in 1905 he became first lieutenant-governor of Saskatchewan. His term of office ended in 1910, and in 1911 he was summoned to the Senate of Canada. He sat in the Senate until his death, at Ottawa , on June 8, 1923. In 1876 he married Henriette Drolet.
