Alphonse Gagnon
Gagnon, Alphonse (1851-1932), author and journalist, was born at St. Jean Port-Joli, Quebec, on June 23, 1851, the son of Charles Gagnon. He became a journalist on the staff of Le Canadien at Quebec, then an official stenographer, and lastly a civil servant. In 1907 he was appointed secretary of the department of public works at Quebec. He died at Quebec on October 4, 1932. He was the author of Études archéologiques et variétés (Quebec, 1894; new ed., Montreal, 1913), L'Amérique précolombienne (Quebec, 1908), Notes sur les sauvages du Canada (Proceedings 18th Session, Am. Congress of Americanists, 1913), Questions d'hier et d'aujourd'kui (Lille, 1913), La lumière visible (Montreal, 1920), and La vieille Angleterre (Montreal, 1925). Source: W.
