Major-General Sir Alexander Bertram
President, John Bertram & Sons Co., Ltd., Dundas , Ont., 511 St. Catherine St., Montreal . Born Dundas, Feb. 18, 1853, son of John and Elizabeth (Bennett) Bertram. Educated: Dundas High School. In 1914, Chairman, Shell Committee, and Deputy Chairman, Imperial Munitions Board. From bugler in 13th Regiment, Hamilton, rose to command of 77th Wentworth Regiment; transferred to Reserve Officers, Jan., 1905; appointed to command, 3rd Infantry Brigade, West Ontario, Dec., 1905; commanded Bisley team, 1909, and acquitted himself with marked distinction; received Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers' decoration; Colonel, 1910; gazetted Brigadier-General, 1915; in 1916, received Knighthood for work during the war, and retired with the rank of Major-General in 1918. President, of the Dominion of Canada Rifle Association, 1922. General Bertram has for many years been an ardent advocate of musketry training. Married Eliza Millechamp Smith, daughter of Hugh T. Smith, Toronto, May, 1877; has three sons and one daughter. Clubs: Mount Royal ; Rideau ( Ottawa ); Beaconsfield Country. Society: Treasurer, Canadian Society of Civil Engineers. Presbyterian. Residence: 315 Kensington Ave., Westmount, Que.
