ADAMS, Frank Dawson, B.Sc., M.Sc., D.Sc., Ph.D., LL.D., D.C.L. - Dean of Faculty of Applied Science and Vice-Principal of McGill University, Montreal, Que. Born Montreal, Sept. 17, 1859. Educated: Montreal High School; McGill University (B.Sc., M.Sc., D.Sc.); Yale University; John Hopkins; Zurich; Heidelberg (Ph.D.). Honorary degrees: Toronto (LL.D.); Queen's (LL.D.); Mount Allison (LL.D.); Bishops (D.C.L.); Tufts (D.Sc.). Asst. Chemist, Geological Survey of Canada, Montreal and Ottawa, 1880; Lecturer in Geology, 1889; Logan Professor in Geology, 1893, and Dean of Faculty of Applied Science, 1908, at McGill University, Montreal. Member of the Commission of Conservation (Chairman of Committee on Minerals), Canada; Member of Honorary Advisory Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, Canada; Fellow of the Royal Society of London, England; Fellow of Geological Society of London (was awarded the Logan Medal); Hon. Member of the Institute of Mining and Metallurgy of London, Eng.; President of the Canadian Mining Institute, 1910; President, Canadian Club, Montreal, 1914; President, Royal Society of Canada, 1914; Hon. Member, Engineering Institute of Canada; President, Geological Society of America, 1916; Foreign Associate of the National Academy of Science, U.S.A.; Foreign Hon. Member of American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Boston, Mass.; Correspondent of the Academy of Sciences of Philadelphia, Pa.; Hon. Member, American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers; Hon. Member, American Philosophical Society of Philadelphia, Pa.; Hon. Member, Mineralogical Society of Russia; Corresponding Member, Geological Society of Stockholm, Sweden, and of Geological Society of Belgium, 1921; President, International Congress of Geologists, 1913; many researches on geological problems, more especially those of ancient metamorphic rocks of Canada; The Igneous Rocks of Eastern Canada; The Flow of Rocks under pressure, also work on the conservation of the natural resources of Canada.
